ABOUT

Elena-1009_edited.jpg

Elena Pires is a native New Yorker of Bolivian and Portuguese heritage and a recent graduate from Colorado State University, where she pursued a combined D.V.M. degree and Ph.D. in Cell and Molecular Biology. Her future goals include utilizing her unique training as a clinician-scientist to advance medical knowledge and empower the public's scientific literacy, through art. She also hopes to serve as a role model for minority women.

Elena’s passion for art developed at a young age, when she often rendered her own stories via comic books that were inspired by Japanese anime and video game series. This initial interest in art was intensely nurtured when she enrolled in the Fine Arts Program at Bayside High School in 2006 and further continued her art expression at CUNY Hunter College by graduating in 2015 with dual Bachelor’s degrees in Biochemistry and Studio Art. Outside of art, research, and clinical work, Elena enjoys spending her time Latin dancing, cosplaying, and gaming.
